  The Camerons of Mountsberg In the early 1800s, Archibald Cameron and his family settled in what would become Mountsberg. Life was tough, but with determination, they cleared the forests and welcomed other settlers, turning the area into a thriving community. Years later, the Railway planned a track straight through the Camerons’ land. Despite the initial protests, Archibald saw opportunity. The railway divided their property, but it also connected Mountsberg to other villages. Through it all, the Camerons' love for family and community remained the heart of their legacy, binding their town together for generations to come.  

Scavenger with piercing symbolic eyes  Winged American freedom caged Cornelius on his perch up high One wing catawampus, askew, deranged In the late winter morning wind that blows cold My fingers grow wooden, entirely numb But Cornelius’s call cuts through silence bold My words fail me now and I’m struck dumb Later a train clatters right through Mountsberg And swallows all other sounds in a whirlpool I play my recording to affirm what I heard  Something inside unraveled from the spool wild cacophonous bark of an eagle sound unsettling, concurrently regal

 So many beautiful natural things here and a privilege to get up close and see them. But of course everything is behind a fence, often a chain link fence. Something beautiful and sad about being so close to the wild thing, but being aware of the cage that holds it for our view.
